Celebrating ISKL’s Sustainability and Service Efforts at the Youth Summit 2024
The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) empowers its community to embrace service and sustainability beyond academics. This was exemplified at the Sustainability and Service Youth Summit, held September 21-22, where ISKL united with 12 schools, refugee learning centers, and NGOs. Aligned with ISKL’s mission to inspire global citizens, the Summit welcomed over 150 participants to collaborate and raise awareness for the cause.
“Communities are advocating for service and sustainability. It is empowering,” Julia C. (’25), HS Service Council leader
Led by ISKL’s High School Service Council, the event tackled the theme, “How Can We Plan for a Sustainable Future?” through workshops on topics such as food sustainability, plastic waste management, and social entrepreneurship. With 15 workshop choices to choose from, attendees were invited to observe those that best suited their directive. 11 organizations, initiatives, and enterprises were invited as workshop providers, which also included parents, faculty, and alumni from the ISKL community. These were incorporated into the pitches for actions to make a difference.Participants also explored ISKL’s eco-initiatives during a Campus Sustainability tour. The event highlighted the students’ passion for solving real-world issues, reinforcing ISKL’s values of empathy, inclusion, and collective efficacy.
