The Bavarian International School (BIS) is more than just a school. It is the place where students from ages 3 to 19 are prepared for the new world of tomorrow. This is where young personalities, global citizens and changemakers grow and flourish. For many students, BIS is a home away from home and a family network for life.

Inspiring global citizens and future changemakers

Bavarian International School (BIS) in Munich and Haimhausen

Across both BIS campuses, in Munich-Schwabing and Haimhausen, education for 1,250 students from 70 nations takes place under the philosophy “Believe. Inspire. Succeed.” A team of 180 top teachers from around the world act as mentors, inspiring students and imparting values and future-ready skills alongside academic knowledge. BIS teachers use a highly personalised approach, taking into account the unique strengths and learning needs of each global citizen in their care. “At BIS, we tailor our students’ preparation for the new world of tomorrow, where 85% of future jobs are not even known today,” says Dr. Chrissie Sorenson, Head of School of Bavarian International School.
In a globalized world, these skills include the 4 C’s of communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking as well as digital citizenship, a cosmopolitan mindset, innovative spirit and the principle of lifelong learning.

BIS offers unique learning environments with state-of-the-art technology like Design Tech, Computer Science, Coding and Robotics, including Artificial intelligence (AI), which is integrated in a meaningful and carefully considered way. Our holistic education goes far beyond the curriculum, e.g. more than 80 After School Activities per week are complemented by special programmes such as European Eco-School, Model United Nations (MUN), The BIS Entrepreneurship Club, or The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. At the BIS City Campus in Munich, a special After School Care programme is available until 6 p.m.

Academic excellence

BIS is a private, non-profit, all-day school (Kindergarten, Preschool, Primary School, and Secondary School) and is one of the best international schools in Germany and Europe. The average grades in the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB DP) are more than four points above the global average every year. The degree opens the door to the best universities all over the world including Germany (from Oxford to TUM, from Harvard to LMU).The school is defined by two other distinguishing qualities: BIS is the only IB World School in Germany offering all four programmes of the International Baccalaureate (IB PYP, IB MYP, IB DP, IB CP). In addition, as the only international school in Germany, BIS offers a scholarship programme with three awards “Believe,” “Inspire,” and “Succeed”, plus the new Dr. Chrissie Sorenson Scholarship, launching in 2026–27.

Building the future of learning

As a school of the future, BIS is constantly evolving. That’s why the 25 million euro Creativity & Innovation Centre (CIC) is being built to serve as the new heart of the Haimhausen Campus, scheduled for completion in February 2027. Spread across three floors and 6,200 square meters, the centre will provide a space where 750 students and teachers learn and collaborate according to the STEAM philosophy: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths. BIS – a place for everyone to grow and flourish.

Class of 2026: Outstanding IB Diploma results – and future-ready graduates

Academic excellence is only part of the story.

Bavarian International School (BIS) proudly celebrates the achievements of the Class of 2026, whose International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) results once again reflect the school’s commitment to academic excellence, personal growth and future-ready learning.

This year’s graduates achieved:

  • Average IB DP Score: 35 points (worldwide: 31)
  • Pass Rate: 97% (worldwide: 82%)
  • Students scoring 40+ points: 9 (12%)
  • Students scoring 36+ points: 32 (43%)
  • Bilingual Diplomas: 35 (46%)
  • Best IB DP score: 44 (of max. 45)
  • Cohort of Class of 2026: 76 students

While these impressive results place BIS among the leading IB World Schools, they tell only part of the story.

Behind every score is a young person who has grown through curiosity, critical thinking, creativity and collaboration. Throughout their journey at BIS, our students have been encouraged to ask difficult questions, embrace different perspectives, contribute to their communities and develop the confidence to navigate an increasingly complex world.

“The IB Diploma is much more than an academic qualification,” says Sandra Evans, IB DP Coordinator of Bavarian International School. “It develops internationally minded young people who combine intellectual curiosity with compassion, resilience and the courage to make a positive difference. Our Class of 2026 exemplifies exactly that.”

At BIS, learning is designed to help every student flourish. Our Statement of Purpose reminds us that everyone has the right to belong and grow within a caring international community. Academic success is therefore never viewed in isolation but as one expression of a broader educational journey that develops character, wellbeing, leadership and a genuine sense of purpose.

In this context, we are also very pleased that another eight students have successfully completed the IB Career-related Programme (IB CP) (pass rate: 100%).

As they now embark on the next chapter of their educational journeys at universities around the world, they do so as curious learners, responsible citizens, and confident changemakers.

We warmly congratulate every graduate, together with their families, teachers & staff, and the entire BIS community, on this remarkable achievement.

Congratulations, Class of 2026! We are incredibly proud of all you have achieved and grateful that you will always be a part of the BIS community. We cannot wait to see the positive impact you will make on the world!
