Halcyon London International School

About | Contact | Location | Videos |

Situated in the heart of Marylebone, London, Halcyon is an innovative International Baccalaureate (IB) school for students aged 11-18. Wellbeing, technology, and student empowerment are at the core of our educational approach.

We provide a holistic education including research-backed wellbeing practices and educational technology, nurturing students’ personal growth and equipping them with skills essential for the modern world. We involve students in decision-making processes, fostering critical thinking, a global perspective, and student empowerment.

Our innovative use of technology enhances learning and complements our dynamic, research-led teaching methods. It is important that our students learn how to use AI to enhance human capabilities, not replace them.

We prioritise social and emotional learning, equipping students with essential interpersonal skills for both personal and academic growth.

Halcyon students take ownership of their community, developing their appreciation and care for others: a core component of the IB’s mission to create “a more peaceful and better world.”

Our holistic admissions process considers academic performance, personal qualities, community engagement, and extracurricular involvement. Applications are accepted year-round.

MYP at Halcyon

Our IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) fosters intellectual curiosity by integrating personal passions with real-world contexts. This student-centred approach develops collaboration, self-management, and intercultural understanding. Through ‘Passion Projects,’ Explorations, and technology integration, students build skills in research, media literacy, and creative thinking. Students experience the joy of learning as a catalyst for personal growth and develop transferable skills for their futures. Our annual Linked Learning Days allow for interdisciplinary learning and creative collaboration, while our Discovery Days open up London as a Classroom for our community.

DP at Halcyon

Our IB Diploma Programme (DP) is led by expert teachers, who prioritise collaborative planning and continual professional development. Students are guided by supervisors who empower them to take responsibility for their research and learning. Students benefit from extensive access to teachers in class, with an average DP class size of 6. Academic rigour is further enhanced through care for student wellbeing: mindfulness and other techniques for self-regulating are embedded in the teaching of the DP.Halcyon-science-lab

Student Wellbeing

Wellbeing plays an important role in our school because it serves as the foundation upon which students can flourish academically, emotionally, and socially. We believe when students feel safe, valued, and supported, they are more engaged, motivated, and open to learning.

Social, emotional and cognitive skills fill The World Economic Forum’s Top 10 skills required by employers in the future. We develop these skills through a comprehensive student mentoring programme, in which every student receives mentoring from an assigned member of staff: all of whom – teaching and administrative – are trained in cognitive coaching.

Our commitment to restorative practice prioritises dialogue, self-reflection and the consideration of others. It promotes a culture built around shared values, not rules, mirroring top university and professional environments. This approach develops students’ self-management and collaboration skills: key to success and fulfilment in the workplace.

Technology

We use technology intentionally and transformatively. Our utilisation of digital tools is curriculum-oriented and research-led, and drives a forward-looking and reflective approach to pedagogy. Our dedicated Digital Learning Coach supports our community to remain innovative, responsible and reflective in our approach to technology.

All students work from an iPad or laptop. Lessons and student work are uploaded to Google Classroom, which can be accessed by parents. Students benefit from our institutional subscriptions to a variety of educational technologies, including Google for Education and Canva for Education. Our physical library is complemented by an extensive digital library, and the expertise of a dedicated Digital Librarian. Students are intentionally taught to use technology where it adds value and enhances human capacity.

Co-Curricular Offer

Our Co-Curricular programme blends compulsory and voluntary clubs, trips, and activities. Students in Grades 6-9 participate in the Explorations Programme, where they choose options to explore personal interests. Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs) provide additional opportunities for skill development, career exploration, and personal growth, offering experiences from sports and arts to academic clubs and societies like Law and Medicine. We have a growing competitive sports programme, including football, basketball and volleyball, as well as an annual Music Show and public Art Exhibition.

University Destinations

Our Director of University and Careers Counselling provides personalised support for each student, drawing on qualitative and quantitative data. This complements a range of visits to and from universities and businesses, and application preparation workshops.

Combined with this support, our students’ hard work earns them places at a range of prestigious Russell Group and UK Top 20 universities, including Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College London, LSE and UCL, as well as highly competitive international institutions such as Dartmouth College, the University of Richmond and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).

Students matriculate onto a range of competitive degree programmes such as Biomedical Sciences, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Psychology, and traditional academic subjects such as English Literature, Chemistry and Economics.
