The Buchan School
Relocate Editorial 8 March 2022
The Buchan School, the junior school and nursery (2 – 11 years), provides the finest education in idyllic and tranquil setting in the picturesque town of Castletown. Its vision statement, “Aim for excellence in all things”, forms the basis to the teaching and learning.
The School is nestled in over 13 acres of beautiful grounds, providing pupils superb facilities to make the most of learning, both inside and outside the classroom. The curriculum is unique and exciting, and pupils are provided with numerous learning opportunities on a daily basis, with specialist subject teachers throughout the curriculum to ensure pupils reach their potential. Class sizes are small to enable staff to meet the individual needs of each child, and the friendly, intimate atmosphere helps pupils enjoy their initial years at school. Breakfast, after-school, and holiday clubs are also available.
“I have been at the Buchan since Reception and have had a great time. My teachers have been helpful, and kind and I feel like I have really grown in confidence.”
King William’s College, the senior school (11 – 18 years), was founded in 1833. It is forward-thinking and one of the few schools in the British Isles where every student in the Sixth Form studies for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. The IB philosophy – particularly its emphasis on the skills and focus on internationalism – is central to the College’s approach and is rightly proud to be one of the most experienced IB schools in the British Isles.
High academic standards are complemented by praise and encouragement, so the children learn to become thoughtful confident young adults.
The School has developed an excellent reputation for academic excellence and achievement in Sport and the Performing Arts. A team of peripatetic staff offer a range of instrumental teaching, and the diverse extra-curricular programme provides pupils with further opportunities to develop different interests and skills.
There is great pride taken in the level of care given to pupils and the dedication to the happiness of every member of the School community. Respect for the beliefs, rights and belongings of others is at the core of its pastoral care system, as the School looks to develop every pupil’s confidence and willingness to try new experiences.
