Headington Rye pupils celebrated their impressive GCSE results with whoops of joy and warm embraces

Despite logging in online to receive their results, many chose to come in to school to mark the
occasion with teachers and friends.

More than one in three of all GCSEs taken were graded at 9, the highest possible level. Eighteen girls achieved 10 or more 8s or above, with eight girls achieving 10 or more nines. A total of 58 girls – more than 40 per cent of the year group – achieved 7 or above in all their subjects.
The proportion of all exams taken graded at the equivalent of 8 or above was 58 per cent while 76 per cent were at a 7 or higher, the equivalent of an old ‘A’ grade.

Among those celebrating was Music Scholar Domino, who will study Economics, Maths, Music and English at Headington Rye Sixth Form after achieving nine 9s and an 8. She said: “I am so happy and so pleasantly surprised! I was expecting 7s and maybe some 8s so I am over the moon.
“The School has given me so much support and the teachers have been so, so amazing – I
couldn’t have got these results without them.”
Martha will study an impressive five A Levels at Headington Rye in Economics, Geography,
Biology, Chemistry and Drama, after achieving six 8s, a 9 and 3 7s. She said: “I knew I had put in the hard work and I felt prepared so I wasn’t too surprised, but I am really happy.”
There were some impressive results in Computer Science, 75 per cent of those taking the exam achieving an 8 or higher. The Arts also saw exceptional results, with 69 per cent of all those taking
Art receiving at least an 8 and 85 per cent a 7 or higher, and 72 per cent of those taking Music achieving a 8 or 9 and 89 per cent obtaining 7 or above. In Textiles, 98 per cent achieved at least a 7.
Those taking Classical Languages also excelled, with 80 per cent hitting the standard required to get an 8 in Classical Greek and 74 per cent in Latin.
Cyclist Iris topped off a high achieving summer with the ten 9s she received coming hot on the heels of riding to second place in the National Junior Road Race Championships in July.
Iris, who joined the School in Year 9, said: “It has been a great few years and I have loved it here.
“I’m really excited about Sixth Form and looking forward to it.”
Iris will study Maths, Biology, Chemistry and English A Levels at Headington Rye Sixth Form.

Ava was among those who was formerly a pupil at Rye St Antony, where she had been a pupil since Nursery. After achieving a string of fantastic results including three 9s and five 8s, she will stay on for Headington Rye Sixth Form to study French, Spanish, English Literature and Psychology. She said: “The last year has been busy but good and it all went smoothly – even early on it felt quite natural after the merger.
“In terms of my results, I was extremely relieved and surprised for some of them in a good way and just really proud and glad all the hard work paid off.”
Alongside the programme of GCSEs, pupils are encouraged to supplement and broaden their
studies with a one-year qualification. This year all pupils taking the School Certificate in   philosophy achieved at least a 7, while 80 per cent of those taking the Higher Project Qualification achieved an A* or A and 89 per cent of those sitting the Level 2 Award in Finance Education received a Merit, the highest possible grade.
Headmistress Caroline Jordan said: “It has been wonderful getting to know these girls as they mature and start to specialise in the subjects which interest them.
“They have worked so incredibly hard and should be very proud of all that they have achieved. I’d like to also thank all the teaching and support staff for everything they have done to help these young women reach their potential.
“I very much look forward to seeing what great things are ahead of them as we continue to work with them in the Sixth Form!”
